Located in the heart of downtown Beckley, West Virginia, 50 miles south of the capital of Charleston, the main campus is in the middle of one of the nation's top areas for outdoor recreation and adventure, with abundant opportunities for climbing, biking, hiking, camping, whitewater rafting, and skiing or snowboarding practically in our backyard.
Being nestled in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains in Southern West Virginia affords Mountain State University a central location on the east coast of the United States. Diversity in the climate adds much to the beauty of the area, with rich fall foliage that paints its fiery oranges, reds, and yellows across the hills, to winter snowfall that sparkles across the mountaintops.
Beckley, a city of 20,000, is the population center of southern West Virginia and offers a number of shopping, dining, and entertainment options. Not only can you enjoy the local attractions, you also have the opportunity to visit areas such as Washington, DC. Pittsburg, PA and New York City. Close to the Mountain State University main campus is the Greyhound Bus Terminal, the Raleigh County Memorial Airport, and the National Railroad Passenger Corporation, Amtrak.
