    What can I study in fire science at MSU?

    MSU's fire science degree program is designed to build firefighting skills, advance leadership rank, and increase salary.

    When you enroll in our program you receive instruction from experienced firefighters in:

    • arson investigation
    • causes of fire
    • CPR
    • driver/pump operations
    • fire safety
    • fire suppression techniques
    • hazardous materials
    • incident command
    • tactical operations
    • vehicle extraction

    This degree program is designed after the Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE) model curriculum proposed by the National Fire Science Degree Programs Committee. The courses that comprise the core of MSU's fire science program have been mapped out to various national certification programs. Therefore, you can earn credit for each of these courses by successfully completing specific fire science related certifications and submitting them to MSU for review.

    Students with related experience can apply for program credit through the University's prior learning assessment program. Firefighters can earn up to 30 hours of transfer credit based on prior fire training.
