What can I study in religious studies at MSU?
MSU's Bachelor of Arts in religious studies is an intellectual study of traditions and beliefs. This curriculum provides students with the opportunity to examine the history, philosophy, and sociology of the world's religions. The degree program has an ecumenical focus and uses a comparative approach when considering spiritual issues in other major world faiths.
Mountain State University's Beckley campus is located among several hundred churches as well as temples, mosques, and synagogues throughout southern West Virginia. Our religious studies professors hail from diverse backgrounds and are knowledgeable in a host of faiths. Courses in MSU's religious studies program are designed to focus on the various traditions and beliefs found across a broad spectrum of faiths around the world. Students will be exposed to a wide range of religious thought within the context of traditions, beliefs, rites, ethics, community, and cultures.
