    Aviation

The Associate of Science in Aviation and Bachelor of Science in Aviation are ideal for student pilots and working aviation professionals. Both degrees include aviation specific coursework that go beyond what you learn in flight school and permit the maximum allowance for college credit from FAA certificates and ratings.

Many of the courses required for the associate and bachelor's degree in aviation are offered through MSU's independent study program, which provides a high degree of flexibility for distance learners. General education requirements and additional coursework can be completed online or through other learning options.

Students with little to no flight training experience have two options:

    1. Highly motivated individuals interested in an airline career and willing to pursue an intensive accelerated flight training program are encouraged to enroll in the Airline Transport Professional Pilot Operations degree program.
    2. Those seeking a more traditional flight training experience should enroll in MSU's A.S. or B.S. in Aviation degree program. Mountain State University has partnered with the Cessna Aircraft Company to offer special incentives to Cessna Pilot Center students and instructors.

College credit for FAA certificates and ratings

MSU offers college credit for those hard-earned FAA certificates and ratings. A student can earn up to 45 credit hours based on the FAA certificates. Here are some sample credit hours available:

    Private Pilot 6
    Instrument Rating 8
    Commercial Pilot 11
    Multi-Engine Rating 3
    Flight Instructor 8
    Instrument Flight Instructor 4
    Multi-Engine Instructor Rating 4
    Airline Transport Pilot 6
    Airframe Mechanic certificate 20
    Powerplant Mechanic certificate 20
    Inspector Authorization 6

    Transfer credit from other schools

Mountain State University accepts qualifying transfer credit, so there is typically no need to repeat courses completed at other schools — and MSU does not charge to transfer credit. Plus, unlike other institutions, MSU does not charge for the credits earned through FAA certificates and ratings.
