Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS)
Diagnostic Medical Sonography, or ultrasound, uses high frequency sound waves to create visual images of internal structures in the body for medical diagnosis. Sonography is used to examine many different areas of the body without making incisions or injecting radioactive material into a patient.
The diagnostic medical sonography program at Mountain State University offers:
- An associate degree focusing on general ultrasound (abdomen, obstetrics and gynecology, and small parts sonography).
- The bachelor's degree program which covers both general ultrasound and cardiovascular ultrasound (echocardiography and vascular sonography).
- Certificate in general ultrasound available for licensed medical professionals who have graduated with an Associate Degree in an AMA-approved field.
All registrations for DMS programs at the Beckley campus MUST be paper-based and approved by the program advisor. Please call 866.367.6781 and ask for the Enrollment Center for assistance with the application process.
