    Diagnostic Medical Sonography

    DMS Online

Mountain State University offers the associate, bachelor's, and certificate programs in DMS online nationwide. Clinical rotations are intended to be offered at a clinical setting (hospital/clinic) as close to the student's geographical location as possible.

The online program is designed for students who are starting college for the first time, those who have completed some or all appropriate college credits, graduates of health sciences programs recognized by the American Medical Association, and registered, licensed, or certified medical professionals.

Mountain State University's A.S. and certificate programs in diagnostic medical sonography are accredited (currently on probation) by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, 1361 Park Street, Clearwater, FL 33756, 727.210.2350, in cooperation with the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, 2025 Woodlane Dr, St. Paul MN 55125-2998, 651.731.1582.

    How it works

Once all prerequisite courses have been completed the student will enter into the selection pool for the next DMS start group, fall or spring. Selection criteria information can be found under the Quick Facts link.

After students are accepted into the DMS program, a clinical coordinator will be assigned to each new group of students to begin the clinical placement process. All communication with the hospital/clinics will be handled by the clinical coordinators in the DMS program. Students are not permitted to set up their own clinical sites. Each clinical affiliate will exceed the requirements set by the Joint Review Commission in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. In the event that the hospital/clinic does not exceed JRC-DMS requirements the student will need to travel and/or relocate to the nearest affiliate that meets the standards and guidelines.

Students are required to visit the Beckley, W.Va., campus for a three-day residency prior to entering the clinical setting. During the students time on campus they will receive one on one scanning time with their clinical coordinator in the DMS labs. This visit will be set up by your clinical coordinator after DMS 212 has been completed.
