How to apply for On-Campus Housing

Full-time freshmen and sophomores under the age of 21 must live on-campus in a residence hall, unless living with parents or guardians, are married, or have dependents. Students planning to live off campus must submit a request for an exemption to this policy. All students living in a residence hall must agree to the following terms and conditions.

Residence Hall Terms
  1. It is my responsibility to read and understand the most current edition of the University catalog, student handbook, residence hall policy guide, and any communication from the Housing and Residence Life Office. As such, I agree to abide by their terms.
  2. A housing deposit of $200 is required of all students without exception. Applications cannot be processed without the reservation fee. Make checks payable to Mountain State University; please do not mail cash.
*As of January 1st 2006, housing deposits will not be refunded.
  3. I must reside on campus so long as I am a full-time freshman or sophomore student under the age of 21, and I do not reside with my parent(s)/guardian(s), am not married, and do not have dependents, and I must obtain an exemption to this policy in accordance with applicable guidelines and procedures in order to live off campus.
  4. As an on-campus resident, I am required to participate in the meal plan under the management of University Food Services. I will have the option of designating a meal plan of 15, or 19 meals per week.
  5. I will occupy the room to which I am assigned unless I receive official notice from the Housing and Residence Life Office to move.
  6. I will not sublet my room or otherwise allow any person(s) to stay in my room without registering them as guests.
  7. Should my course load become less than 12 semester hours of credit, I must receive written permission from the Housing and Residence Life Office to remain in the residence hall.
  8. I will remove no furnishings from the room.
  9. The University reserves the right to change room assignments at its discretion, including, but not limited to, consolidation of room assignments.
  10. If one of the occupants of a room moves, the student who remains agrees to accept an assigned roommate or to move to another room upon request of the Housing and Residence Life Office.
  11. I will be subject to administrative charges, the applicable additional fee for single occupancy or the applicable fee for a double occupancy room, disciplinary action, and/or eviction if I misrepresent the truth, intimidate assigned occupants, or otherwise attempt to manipulate the housing assignment process.
  12. I will report to the housing staff any maintenance or repair problems.
  13. The University reserves the right to conduct periodic inspections of my residence hall room (suite) without notice to me to enforce University or residence hall policies.
  14. I will be responsible for all damage to the room and its furnishings and for property loss. The cost of repairs and replacements will be charged to all residents of the room where individual responsibility cannot be established.
  15. It is my responsibility to keep my room locked at all times. The University is not financially responsible for personal possessions lost or stolen from the room.
  16. I relieve the University from any liability resulting from property damage or personal injuries sustained in or around residence halls to myself or my invitees and guests.
  17. The residence hall keys are not to be duplicated, and unauthorized possession of a University key is grounds for immediate suspension or dismissal.
  18. I will abide by University regulations regarding vehicle registration and parking.
  19. Should I, at any time, cease to be a Mountain State University student, I will vacate the residence hall within 24 hours and will notify the Housing and Residence Life Office, unless I am subject to suspension, expulsion, or removal, in which case I must vacate immediately.

Breach of this agreement or violation of any University regulation outlined herein or in the current edition of the Mountain State University handbook or catalog may result in removal, where the University determines my continued residence would pose a danger in health, welfare, or safety of any other member of the University community.
