The Library is open to MSU students, faculty, and staff. The public is also welcome to use the Library and its resources as long as they adhere to its policies. The public may not directly check out materials. However, individuals can make arrangements through the Raleigh County Public Library for an interlibrary loan of our holdings.
For Distance Education students, a Library card application is available via US mail. To receive all necessary forms, e-mail Sue Phillips at suephil@mountainstate.edu and include your complete name and address. Submission form is located at left.
Children are welcome in the Library as long as an adult guardian accompanies them. We cannot be responsible for unattended children. This especially holds true for computer use.
How do I check out materials?
You must have your updated MSU ID card with you, to which we will attach a barcode. Books and videos can be checked out for four weeks. You may have a total of 15 items checked out in your name. Reference books, reserve items, and periodicals can be used only in the library. Overdue fines are five cents a day, with a three-day grace period.
What if I need something the library doesn't own?
We can try to obtain it for you from another library through our Interlibrary Loan service. Unless the lending library charges a fee, Interlibrary Loan is free. Please remember to allow ample time for processing your request, usually two to three weeks. Submission form is located to the left.
How can I renew the loan on my materials?
If necessary, you may renew materials for an additional four weeks if no one has requested the items. You can renew materials in person, by calling 304.929.1367, or by e-mailing Susan Hoskins, shoskins@mountainstate.edu. Please have your MSU ID available.
Items obtained through Interlibrary Loan may be renewable at the discretion of the lending institution.
How can I get help with my research?
If you need help finding information or using any of our electronic databases, all you have to do is ask! All our staff and student workers are trained in helping patrons, and we are glad to help you with your research goals. In addition, we will provide instructional sessions to acquaint you with all the library resources. Contact Sharon Bleau, Reference Librarian, sharonb@mountainstate.edu, for details.
