AttendanceRegular attendance is expected and is important for successful completion of a course or program of study and an integral part of a student's educational experience. While nonattendance may jeopardize a student's grade, the final grade should reflect performance, not attendance alone. In the administration of the attendance policy, the University recognizes three kinds of absences: excusable absences resulting from unavoidable events clearly beyond the student's control, such as illness of the student or illness or death in the family; institutional absences resulting from participation in an activity in which the student officially represents the University; and other types of absences that may be either excused or unexcused at the discretion of the student's instructor. Faculty members are expected to encourage a reasonable pattern of class attendance. At the beginning of each semester, every instructor shall make available the attendance requirements for the particular class. |
