The Technology Zone™The Technology Zone™ is an ambitious, federally funded project of the Mountain State University Information Technology Center. The development of the Technology Zone includes installation of state-of-the-art telecommunication links, technology equipment, high-speed access and software, a 3-D immersion module, and a DS3 line system. The center's work will inspire outreach methods to existing businesses within the region and the downtown Beckley area, and will provide opportunities for students to explore and create business opportunities utilizing state-of-the-art technology.Reaching far beyond MSU's student population, Southern West Virginia's children, teacher, and entrepreneurs benefit from the enhanced high-speed access, cutting-edge equipment, and professional expertise offered by the Zone. Programs involved in the Technology Zone include community computer institutes, an e-business incubator, and a K-12 teacher's academy for science and technology educators. One of the most innovative projects included in the Zone is the BEEHIVE. The BEEHIVE (Better Educational Experiences Happen In Virtual Environments) is a portable technique for synchronizing computerized images to provide a multi-walled virtual environment for students to gain real-world experience in many fields of study, such as medical imaging and forensic investigation.
