Scholarships
Scholarships are achievement-based awards. Scholarships may be awarded based on factors such as academic grades, abilities, skills, test scores, class rank, etc.
Gift Scholarships
Mountain State University awards gift scholarships each year with the assistance of a number of donors. Eligible students are presented to the scholarship committee which is made up of faculty, staff, administration representatives, and community leaders who select recipients based on each scholarship's criteria. High School Scholarships
Mountain State University has developed scholarships specifically for high school seniors. Students must apply by March 1st and begin classes at the MSU-Beckley campus in the fall semester following their high school graduation.

High School Valedictorian Scholarships
The MSU Valedictorian scholarship is available to incoming freshmen who have not attended another postsecondary institution. Eligible students must rank number one (1) in their graduating class and provide the scholarship coordinator with verification of eligibility. The amount of this scholarship is full general tuition and does not include fees. The scholarship does not include the additional tuition for selected enrollment programs. Students must maintain a minimum 3.00 GPA and full-time enrollment status.
High School Salutatorian Scholarships
The MSU Salutatorian scholarship is available to incoming freshmen who have not attended another postsecondary institution. Eligible students must rank number two (2) in their graduating class and provide the scholarship coordinator with verification of eligibility. The amount of this scholarship is one-half general tuition and does not include fees. The scholarship does not include the additional tuition for selected enrollment programs. Students must maintain a minimum 3.00 GPA and full-time enrollment status.
Presidential and Trustee Scholarships
Mountain State University's Presidential and Trustee Scholarships are available to incoming freshmen. Applicants must have a 17 on the English and 19 on the Math components of the ACT exam, a high school GPA of 3.0, and the required expected family contribution (EFC). An EFC of 5275-7200 is required for the Presidential Scholarship and 7201-9100 for the Trustee Scholarship.
Ambassador Scholarship
The Ambassador Scholarship provides $4,000 a year and is renewable for up to four years. Students awarded the Ambassador Scholarship represent the University at student activities and University events. To qualify, you must have a GPA of at least 3.0 as well as excellent team and leadership skills.
