Library Behavior Policies

Students are expected by the University to conduct themselves in a professional manner and follow all library policies and procedures. To ensure the library/ computer lab remains a clean, quiet area conducive to academic pursuits, the following rules of conduct are to be enforced:

  • Library users are expected to follow all posted library/computer lab rules.
  • No food or drink is allowed in the library/lab.
  • Library/lab users must maintain an acceptably low noise level and behave in a way that respects the rights and needs of others.
  • Cell phone use is restricted in the designated quiet areas. Cell phone use in other areas is permitted, as long as noise is kept at a minimum.
  • Library/lab equipment and furnishings must be used for their intended purpose and treated with respect. This includes one person seated in a chair at a time.
  • Library users are expected to leave when asked by library/lab staff. (For example, when the library is closing, during an emergency, or when their behavior is unacceptable.)
  • Copies of these rules will be available in the library.

Compliance measures

  • Should a user violate any rule, a staff member will issue a verbal warning and provide the patron with a print copy of these rules.
  • On the second offense, or if the first offense is particularly egregious, the staff will ask for the user’s University ID and will fill out a University Incident Report. This report will be given to the appropriate University authorities.
  • Students may read the University’s student handbook for more information regarding student conduct and their rights and responsibilities.
