Computer Lab

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What time does the computer lab open and close? The Library lab will maintain the same hours as the MSU library.

  • How do I log onto the computer? All students will have a specific username and password. The username is the student’s firstname.lastname using no spaces and the password is the student’s Cougar Web password. If you do not know your password, contact itsupport@mountainstate.edu.

  • Who can use the computers? MSU Students, faculty and staff. Members of the public may use the computers if they are doing research on the library databases only. (Also, they must present a valid photo id).

  • What is my school email address? Firstname.lastname@msucougar.org; to access your email account you will need to go here.

  • Can I complete my financial aid here? Students and potential students may do financial aid on the computers. The lab personnel may assist the student in finding the website needed to complete FAFSA or VFAO. Lab personnel may not complete any part of the application for the student.

  • Can I save my document to the computer? No, documents cannot be saved to the computers. Students should save any documents that they will need on a compact disk or removable drive to ensure that the document will not be lost.

  • Can I use headphones? Students may use headphones provided that they present their validated MSU identification card.

  • Can I install software onto the computers? Students are not authorized to install software/hardware on any lab computer. Students having software that needs to be installed on the computer will have to ask for help. This software must be for a class.

  • How do I get my Cougar Web username and password? The username is your student id number. The Information Technology department sends the password to the student's MSU email account. If you do not receive it in your email you will need to send and email to itsupport@mountainstate.edu.

  • How do I get to my grades? Grades are located on Cougar web.

  • How do I print? Students will be required to purchase a card from the card reader machine and add value to the card in order to retrieve their printouts. We do not accept cash for printouts. If you need assistance ask the computer lab assistant. Printers will be turned off ten minutes prior to closing.
