Faculty services
Faculty are encouraged to use the various services provided by the Library and Technology Resources Department. The director of the library, Judy Altis, will be happy to introduce the faculty to the library facilities and staff. The following services are offered:
- Audio-Visual equipment Media Services works with faculty to provide laptops and projectors for class lectures and presentations. They also videotape lectures and campus events such as Constitution Day, and provide sound equipment. All classrooms are equipped with televisions and DVD/VHS players, and most contain projectors. Additional equipment can be provided with 24 hours' notice. All of these services require the completion of the Media Services Work Order.
Media Services also offers training on how to use the various types of A/V equipment for classrooms. Call extension 1351 for more information.
- Course reserves Instructors may place supplemental instructional materials on reserve at the reference desk. These items will only be available for use within the library, and instructors should remind their students to bring their validated MSU IDs in order to use the materials.
Complete the reserve form for each item you wish to place on reserve.
- IDsA validated MSU ID is required for all library users, including faculty. Faculty must obtain a form from the Human Resources department and present this form to the Media Services staff, who will make the ID. We wil not check out materials to anyone who does not have an MSU ID, no exceptions.
- Circulation Faculty may have a total of 20 items checked out, and the checkout period is for a semester at a time. To renew for additional semesters, please contact Susan Hoskins or ext. 1369.
- Purchase requests Faculty may request library materials to be purchased for the collection. Purchases are prioritized and ordered as funding allows. Please submit your requests using this form.
- Bibliographic Instruction The library staff offers bibliographic instruction for faculty and students. Individualized sessions for faculty can be arranged, and classroom instruction, both in the library and in the classroom are available. Appointments must be made to arrange these sessions. Contact Sharon Bleau at sharonb@mountainstate.edu for scheduling.
- Displays Faculty are invited to create displays promoting their programs, classes, or special scholarly pursuits. You may request the large wall display case or the display table near the library entrance. Contact Sue Phillips for scheduling.
- Computer lab The library computer lab is intended for individual use and it is not conducive for classroom meetings. Faculty are encouraged to utilize the closed labs on the third floor. However, if you plan to send or bring a small group to the lab, please notify Denise Ballard at dballard@mountainstate.edu so arrangements can be made.
Faculty who wish software to be added to the open lab computers need to contact Denise Ballard. License agreements must be compliant with institutional use, not individual use. Faculty who wish software to be added to the network must contact the Information Technology Department.
- Digital Video Library Films on Demand, a multidisciplinary digital video service, provides either film segments or complete films for use in the classroom, in presentations, or any other academic endeavor for both faculty, staff and students. Click here to log in. For the user name and password, go to Access Information.
