Mission Statement
The mission of the Library and Technology Resources Department is to provide the faculty, staff and students of Mountain State University with library services and materials necessary to successfully plan and complete course studies in their chosen fields through a curriculum-driven collection, a variety of electronic media, and professional help in using the resources provided.
The library and media services’ mission includes fostering intellectual freedom and academic inquiry, helping users learn the skills necessary to locate, retrieve, and evaluate the information provided, and stimulating the customer’s thirst for knowledge. The mission of the computer lab is to assist students in developing the technological skills necessary not only for completing academic assignments, but also for functioning in the modern workplace.
The staff of professional librarians, computer lab technicians, media technicians, trained support staff and student workers will provide services through the handling of materials for the greatest customer use. The staff will make information available by the purchase or lease of materials, both print or electronic, which support the curriculum at Mountain State University. These materials include books, audiovisual resources, serials, and on-line subscriptions to electronic resources.
The staff will classify, process, organize, store, and provide access to these materials to the university community. The staff will also conduct bibliographic instruction both in groups and on an individual basis as well as provide other library services, such as inter-library loan, preparation of bibliographies for accreditation site visits, and so forth.
