Electronic Database Instructions
The best way to learn how to use online databases is by actually going in and using them. Contact Sue Phillips, the Academic Resource Librarian, at suephil@mountainstate.edu for the required usernames and passwords.
NewsBank
Newsbank is a database of articles from local and national newspapers published from 1991 to the present. They are organized by subject.
Step 1: Click on the link and type in the appropriate username and password.
Step 2: On the Welcome page, click on "Access World News", "Selected West Virginia Newspapers", or the links to specific newspapers or news magazines.
Step 3: Type in your subject and click on search.
- On "The World" screen, you can limit your search to a location, source type, or specific resource by using the tabs beneath the search boxes.
Step 4: When the list of articles appears, select the one the best matches your topic and click on the title, written in blue.
Step 5: The complete text will appear and you can print, e-mail, and save from this page.
NOTES: The "View Results" list will allow you to narrow your search by date.
