Proctor Information > School of Extended and Distance Education

Students in the Individualized Study program who do not have convenient access to campus may designate a local proctor to administer their course examinations. Prospective proctors must meet the following requirements:

  • Priority in proctor approval is given in the following order
    1. Another University or College
    2. Vocational school, Military, or Corporate Training facility
    3. A local Public library
    4. A local High School
  • It is usually simpler to focus on the location of the proctoring rather than picking an individual. (Once you find one of the above listed locations which will host the exam sessions, it will follow suit that an employee willing to proctor these tests will be relatively easy to find.)
  • Once you find a suitable location, and an employee has agreed to be your proctor, have them fill out the attached proctor application and mail or fax it back per the included instructions.
  • To be considered for approval, the proctor:
    • Cannot be related to you;
    • Cannot be a personal friend;
    • Cannot be a co-worker;
    • Must be an employee at the designated proctoring location;
    • Must hold a bachelor’s degree, professional certification equivalent, or appropriate military ranking.

In exceptional cases, individuals who do not meet every qualification may still be eligible. Prospective proctors apply by completing the Application for Independent Test Proctor Form and returning it with a copy of their resume or CV to:

Application decisions are usually made within 5 business days. If the application is approved, the proctor receives a letter of acceptance and any examinations to be administered by registered mail. Proctors who will be administering Internet-based examinations receive a login name, password, and instructions.

If the proposed proctor is not approved, affected students are notified by phone or mail so they can search for another proctor.
