The Graduate Education Council
The Graduate Education Council constitutes the academic administrative committee of the School of Graduate Studies and reviews general policies for the School. The Council is composed of the graduate academic officers. The Graduate Education Council reports to the Executive Vice President of Mountain State University. The Director of Graduate Independent Studies Academic Services keeps the minutes of this group’s meetings. In addition, other members of the University community such as the senior officers for undergraduate schools, student services personnel, learning resources personnel, assessment personnel, and graduate faculty may be invited to particular meetings of the Graduate Council to appear in an ad hoc capacity. The Graduate Council
- Develops overall academic and procedural policies for the School of Graduate Studies and conducts strategic planning.
- Reviews and approves submitted recommendations regarding new graduate programs and certificates.
- Makes recommendations to the Executive Vice President concerning issues relating to the School of Graduate Studies.
- Serves as the strategic planning and assessment committee for the School of Graduate Studies.
- Meets regularly during the academic year, with the times of meetings determined by the members.
Programmatic functions proper to the role and scope of graduate program officers are not subsumed by nor superseded by the Council. Such include but are not limited to modalities of delivery and assessment, curriculum content and development, the student grade appeals process, the naming and granting of degrees and certificates within existing programs, confirmation of degree candidacies within programs, the nature of capstone projects, theses, or comprehensive examinations, or the designations of appropriate faculty within the programs.
