Graduate Admission
GRADUATE CATALOG INDEX

 |
One basic requirement of full admission as a degree-seeking student in the School of Graduate Studies is a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university or a comparable degree from a college or university outside the United States. The only exception to this requirement is the
entry-level physician assistant program, which grants admission on the basis of specific program prerequisites rather than an undergraduate degree.
Some programs, including the physician assistant and nursing programs, have additional admissions requirements and processes. See the program listings for detailed application and admissions information.
In some cases, students who do not qualify for unconditional admission may be admitted under one of the following categories:
Provisional Admission
Applicants who do not meet program criteria for regular admission may be accepted on a provisional basis. Students who are granted provisional admission must earn a GPA of at least 3.0 in their first 12 hours of coursework and then request that their admission status be reconsidered. This option is not available for all programs.
Nondegree Admission
Nondegree students are not admitted to a specific program but are eligible to take graduate courses with the approval of the instructor or program administrator. Nondegree students who are later admitted to a degree program may be able to apply some nondegree hours toward their degree.
Transient Admission
Students enrolled in a graduate program at another institution who wish to take graduate courses at Mountain State University should apply for nondegree admission. Acceptance of transfer credit from MSU or elsewhere is entirely at the discretion of the institution; if you plan to transfer credit elsewhere it is best to obtain approval in advance.
