Grading System
GRADUATE CATALOG INDEX

The graduate faculty uses the following uniform criteria in assigning grades:

A Excellent mastery of course content and ability to apply course concepts. Work displays initiative, independence, and application. 4 quality points per credit hour.

B Good mastery of course content and ability to apply course content concepts. Work demonstrates acceptable understanding of the significance, relationships, and application of the
material covered. 3 quality points per credit hour.

C Minimal meeting of assignment criteria but insufficient achievement to ensure progress according to program requirements. 2 quality points per credit hour.

D Not considered passing. 1 quality point per credit hour.

F Failure to meet minimum competencies. No quality points.

P Satisfactory completion of a pass/fail course. Credit only; no quality points.

W Withdrew. Student withdrawal from the course during the designated withdrawal period. No credit or quality points.

WP Withdrew passing (administrative withdrawal). No credit or quality points.

WF Withdrew failing (administrative withdrawal). No quality points; punitive to GPA.

WIP Work in progress. Indicates enrollment in the course. May adversely affect standing in some graduate programs.

I Incomplete. Temporary grade that converts to a letter grade when work is completed or to F if work is not completed by the end of the following semester, although students may request an extension in extenuating circumstances. Given when the instructor believes that work is unavoidably incomplete or that an additional exam is justified.

AU Audit. No credit or quality points.
