101 Keyboarding (3)
Instruction on components of the enhanced 101-key computer keyboard — including the primary alphanumeric keyboard with numbers and symbols, function keypad, editing keypad, and numeric keypad — and their uses. Activities include word, sentence, and paragraph practice, and timed writings. Develops entry-level word processing skills and basic formatting skills through the production of business letters, tables, newsletters, reports, and memos. Successful completion requires a minimum speed of 30 words per minute. Also listed as MAST 101. F, Sp, Su I; ISP, ISW.

104 SuperWrite I (3)
Prereq: 101. An abbreviated writing system based on the alphabet, using abbreviations, frequently used words, and phonetics. Successful completion requires a minimum speed of 60 words per minute. ISP only.

105 SuperWrite II (3)
Prereq: 101, 104. Continuation of 104 that includes a complete review of SuperWrite theory. Successful completion requires a minimum speed of 80 words per minute, with an emphasis on transcription of dictated material. ISP only.

106 Records Management (3)
Principles and practices of effective records management, including criteria for creating, storing, retrieving, retaining, and disposing of records. Includes the alphabetic method of filing as well as cross-referencing and geographic, numeric, chronological, and subject filing. Sp; ISP, ISW.

115 Desktop Management (3)
Prereq: CIS 115. Familiarizes students with Microsoft Outlook; topics include messaging, managing contacts, scheduling calendars for multiple persons, journals, notes, and tasks. F; ISP

201 Intermediate Information Processing (3)
Prereq: 101. Builds on competencies developed in 101 with mastery of a variety of letter and memo formats and an emphasis on speed and accuracy through intensive practice. Covers sophisticated documents and application of advanced functions to the preparation of documents with graphics, columns, and other design elements, as well as preparation of administrative and employment documents. Successful completion requires minimum speed of 40 words per minute. F, Sp, Su II; ISP.

202 Advanced Document Production (3)
Teaches preparation of compound documents through the use of advanced word processing functions and expertise in the application of these functions. Activities include intensive office computing instruction in the preparation of tables; reports with title pages, tables of contents, and executive summaries; and graphics, borders, charts, and other visual elements. Improvement of composition skills is stressed in the preparation and integration of Office 2003 components including Access and Power Point. Emphasis on production speed and accuracy of documents relative to those used in executive, accounting, professional, technical, legal, medical, and government settings. Successful completion requires minimum speed of 50 words per minute. Sp; ISP.

205 Transcription Skills for Business (3)
Prereq: 101. Introduces document formatting through listening to recorded dictation and transcribing the dictation using word processing software. Emphasizes development of proofreading and editing skills. Sp.

210 Procedures for Office Professionals (3)
Prepares administrative professionals to function in a challenging role within today’s workplace, with instruction and activities directed toward technology, communication, and human relations. Sp.

211 Workplace Success (3)
Provides students with a framework for developing “people skills” essential for job success. Topics include developing a professional image, time management, organizational dynamics, and conflict management. F.

217 Professional Development (3)
Preparation for employment, with an emphasis on self-development. Includes instruction in handling communications, accurate records maintenance, and office technology, as well as developing appropriate work habits and attitudes necessary for effective communication with subordinates, colleagues, and superiors. ISP only.

225 Practicum (3)
Supervised internship in an office environment. All.

425 Office Management Practicum (1–15)
Prereq: perm of director. Supervised internship in a business firm or agency.
