The following courses are open only to students in the organizational leadership – hospitality leadership program.

412 Hospitality Workforce Leadership (3)
Addresses labor, workforce, and people issues that characterize the hospitality industry; helps develop knowledge of factors and best practice solutions related to employee recruitment, selection, and development. Includes experiential leadership skills to develop talent for organizations and their employees’ skill base on the job, as well as analysis of leadership strategies for addressing specific industry challenges of retention, turnover, and entrant skill levels. Students develop plans for making their organization an employer of choice in the hospitality industry.

422 Leadership in Value Creation (3)
Addresses leading people in a hospitality organization to think beyond today and to think holistically about what creates value for the customer. Includes use of a strategic model to understand changes in demographics and their effect on not only the employee pool but also customer needs and wants. Addresses how leaders need to think in terms of systems and creating a common shared purpose within the hospitality organization. A specific focus on the customer relationship management model builds understanding of how the organizational as a whole can deliver value.

432 Evolution of the Hospitality Product (3)
Addresses the past and the future of the hospitality industry, with particular focus on the trends of today as they will affect the product and its distribution. Studies the movement of leadership from a service economy to an experience economy and the importance of organizational authenticity. Focuses on a future analysis of how globalization is changing the hospitality industry and management of the customer relationship.

425 Hospitality Problem Solving Practicum (3)
Integrates the practical application of concepts, theories, and practices introduced in the semester’s coursework. Includes design and implementation of a problem-solving research project for an organization within the hospitality industry, fostering development of organizational diagnostic and leadership skills and recognition of their value in addressing real-life organizational problems and situations.

430 Hospitality Problem Solving Practicum (3)
Integrates the practical application of concepts, theories, and practices introduced in the semester’s coursework. Includes design and implementation of a problem-solving research project for an organization within the hospitality industry, fostering development of organizational diagnostic and leadership skills and recognition of their value in addressing real-life organizational problems and situations.
