101 Introduction to Physics (3)
Prereq: MATH 112 or placement score for MATH 120. Survey of the major disciplines of physics: mechanics, wave motion and fluids, thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, light and optics, and modern physics. Includes history of the field and some of its major developers; emphasizes the application of principles of physics to everyday life. Intended for non-science majors; includes minimal mathematics. 211 Physics I (3)
Prereq: MATH 130. Applies the fundamental philosophy and principles of physics to studies of classical mechanics: statics and dynamics, SHM, waves, and sound. Includes kinematics and dynamics, linear and angular momentum, Newton’s laws of motion and gravitation, work and potential energy, kinetic energy, conservation laws, center of gravity, rotational dynamics, simple harmonic motion, waves, sound, and hydrostatics and hydrodynamics. 211L Physics I Laboratory (1)
Coreq: 211. Exploration and analysis of basic concepts of theories discussed in lecture. Lab experience conducted through a variety of methods that may include CD-ROM. F.

212 Physics II (3)
Prereq: 211, 211L. Applies the fundamental philosophy and principles of physics to electricity, magnetism, and optics. Includes electrostatics, DC and AC circuits, electric and magnetic fields, electromagnetic induction, magnetic materials, Maxwell’s equations, electromagnetic waves, lenses and mirrors, interference and diffraction, polarization, special relativity, photons, electrons, atoms, molecules, solids, and nuclear physics.
