ABOUT THE COURSE LISTINGS
All courses are listed alphabetically by department. The official course number consists of the department prefix (for example, ACCT for Accounting) plus the number at the beginning of the listing. The number of semester hours offered for the course is shown in parentheses at the end of the title; courses with variable credit show the range available.
At the beginning of each listing is information about any prerequisites (requirements such as coursework or permissions that must be met before you can enroll in the course) and corequisites (additional courses that you are required to complete during the same term). Unless otherwise indicated, all prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of C or better. Prerequisites listed without a prefix have the same prefix as the course under which they appear. The designations fr, soph, jr, and sr refer to academic standing; and perm refers to the instructor’s permission unless otherwise designated.
The end of the entry may have additional information, including any cross-listings (if the same course is offered through different departments) and any numbers under which the course has formerly been listed. Information on the availability of the course may appear in italics at the end of the entry. The term or terms when it is scheduled to be offered through traditional classroom study are indicated with the abbreviations F, Sp, Su I, and Su II (including in some cases a designation for even- or odd-numbered years). Courses offered through independent study are indicated with the designations ISP, for traditional paper-based independent study, and ISW, for web-enabled independent study. See the Distance Education and Prior Learning Assessment chapter for more information on independent study classes.
Even if no semester is indicated, any course not designated IS only or otherwise limited is available through traditional classroom study on the Beckley campus.
Consult an academic advisor if you have any questions about an individual course or its applicability to your program of study.
