PHLEBOTOMY (Certificate)
Patsy H. Haslam School of Health Sciences

The 33-week certificate program in phlebotomy fulfills the educational component of the Registered Phlebotomy Technician (RPT) certification. After completing the certificate and earning a passing score on the national RPT exam, you will be qualified to obtain blood samples from patients in hospitals, home health settings, clinics, physician offices, blood banks, and research facilities. The certificate program is open to students in the medical assisting program or other associate or bachelor’s degree programs, as well as those who wish to earn only the certificate without enrolling in a degree program.

Application and Admission
The program accepts new students for fall and spring semesters as well as the beginning of summer sessions in June. While the format may vary depending on the start date, most students take 19 credit hours over three 11-week semesters. Acceptance to the University and meeting the program application requirements do not guarantee admission to the certificate program.

The program maintains a rolling admissions policy. Applications are accepted until the class for the upcoming year is filled. After that point, qualifying applicants are placed on a waiting list for the next class.
