The Associate of Science in Aviation degree utilizes two components in establishing an educational foundation for the aspiring aviation professional. These components are:

General education courses 27 credit hours
FAA certificates and ratings 40 credit hours

This program is administered to each student individually using the individualized study method. It offers a high degree of flexibility but requires students to study as individual learners under the direction of a MSU faculty member.

The A.S. program in Aviation includes coursework in general education requirements and business management. Academic credit for FAA certificates and ratings can be applied to the program, with approved aviation electives for any remaining hours.

Aviation Courses & Credits
Mountain State University awards credit based on FAA Certificates and Ratings. To qualify for this program, a student must have FAA Ratings and Certificates equivalent to at least 25 credit hours.

  • Instrument Rating (8 hrs.)
  • Commercial Pilot Certificate (11 hrs.)
  • Multi-Engine Rating (3 hrs.)
  • Flight Instructor Rating (8 hrs.) or AGI (6 hrs.)
  • Instrument Instructor Rating (4 hrs.) or IGI (3 hrs.)
  • Multi-Engine Instructor Rating (4 hrs.)
  • Airline Transport Pilot Rating (6 hrs.)
