Why choose Legal Studies?
The Legal Studies major provides a broad education focusing on the law, legal processes and legal institutions, how they relate, and how they operate. The courses cover law and legal institutions as social, political, and cultural phenomena.
Good candidates for legal studies are those who are “comfortable” with ambiguity and don’t always require answers to be black or white. Students entering the program will spend a good bit of time reading and writing. As you move from core curriculum into career track studies, you will spend increasing time in research and writing. Critical thinking is encouraged, and communication skills are essential.
Finally, if you care about people and their problems, and want to have the knowledge and skills to help them, Legal Studies may be a good option for you.
What choose MSU?
The MSU Legal Studies program offers a B.S. with a concentration in legal studies/pre-law and an A.S. with a concentration in paralegal studies.
Our graduates have performed extremely well in law school; they’ve been not only competitive, but also finished in the top percentages of their respective classes. You can’t argue with success!
Career Opportunities
The Legal Studies major provides a general background for a number of careers. Law school is certainly a logical next step from the Legal Studies program. Law School graduates have a wide range of options, including the traditional legal practice, which encompasses litigation and transactional work, corporate counsel, politics, local, state and federal government, etc.
But law school is not the only option for MSU Legal Studies graduates. Several recent graduates are pursuing Master’s degrees in other related fields. Others have successfully transitioned to the workplace and are using their training in law firms, state government and businesses. The A.S. degree offers graduates the opportunity to work as paraprofessionals in law firms, corporate counsel groups, human resources and in government
