MSU Welcomes National Institutes of Health Outreach Program
October 14, 2002

Symposium opens new doors for medical research in Southern WV

Representatives from The National Institutes of Health visited the Mountain State University campus on Friday, October 11, to offer training and guidance to potential researchers interested in entering the research field through the NIH framework. The symposium was attended by MSU faculty and staff, and representatives from Bluefield State College, WV State College, WV Tech, and the Beckley-Raleigh County Health Department.

The National Institutes of Health, headquartered in Bethesda, MD, is an agency of the Public Health Services, which, in turn, is part of the US Department of Health and Human Services. NIH is comprised of 27 separate institutes, whose missions are to uncover new knowledge that will lead to better health for everyone. Four of these institutes: Heart, Blood and Lung; Diabetes; Digestive and Kidney Diseases; and Child Health and Human Development were represented at the symposium.

For further information on the NIH symposium, contact Sheri McGraw, Assistant Vice President for Public Relations and Marketing, at 304-929-1477 or smcgraw@mountainstate.edu.
