Appalachian Visions Spring Festival 2003
March 20, 2003
As part of a continuing commitment to present quality arts-based entertainment in southern West Virginia, the Appalachian Visions program at Mountain State University will bring to Beckley Grammy® award-winning banjo virtuoso Marc Pruett in a one-night-only appearance with Everett Lilly and the Lilly Mountaineers on April 5, 2003. This program will combine the talents of these extraordinary roots-based performers for an unforgettable evening of music.
Pruett, a native of North Carolina, won a Grammy® award in 1998 for his stellar playing on Ricky Skaggs' comeback LP, Bluegrass Rules, and has also taken part in other recent successes such as O Sister! The Women's Bluegrass Collection and Rhonda Vincent's Back Home Again. He was a member of the band for Skaggs' first solo LP in 1979, and has been selected by numerous professional bluegrass stars since then for his ace sideman abilities.
Everett Lilly, a recent inductee to both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the International Bluegrass Musician's Association Hall of Honor, has a legacy of over 50 years of writing and performing classic bluegrass music. He was a member of an historic line-up of Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs and the Foggy Mountain Boys, and later was well-known throughout Europe and Asia due to successful tours with his brother Bea as the Lilly Brothers, along with banjo accompanist Don Stover.
Lilly and Pruett will be joined by the Lilly Mountaineers, which is comprised of Everett's sons Everett Alan, Daniel and Mark.
The concert will take place at the John W. Eye Conference Center on the Mountain State University campus and is free to the general public. Doors will open at 6:30 and the performance will start at 7 P.M. This event will close the Appalachian Visions Spring Festival, which will begin at 3 P.M. that afternoon at the same location and will feature art and craft displays, workshops, and food.
