Am I Ready for Online Learning?
Online education, while not tying an individual to a particular classroom and class time, has its own unique set of challenges. Often times what substitutes for the traditional lecture modality of classroom instruction are increased amounts of reading and other forms of "hands-on" activities. You may have an increased number of quizzes in an online course. Students are encouraged to read our section of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding online learning at MSU.

To see if you have the potential to do well in an online course, we invite you to take the self-evaluation below.

1. My reason for taking an online course is the following: (please check only one selection)

A. I am a busy adult that needs an alternative to traditional courses.

B. I am supplementing my on campus classes with an online course to round out my schedule.

C. I hear that online courses are easier than traditional courses.


2. Feeling that I am part of a class is: (please check only one selection)

B. Somewhat important to me.

C. Very important to me.


3. I would classify myself as someone who: (please check only one selection)

A. Often gets things done ahead of time.

B. Needs reminding to get things done on time.

Your Score is:

If you scored from 41-45, you should have no difficulty in adapting to online education.

If you scored from 36-40, you may experience some difficulty initially with adapting to online education.

If you scored from 31-35, you may experience difficulty with online education, however, if you apply yourself, you should do fine.

If you scored from 26-30, you may experience greater difficulty than the average student in adapting to online education and you may wish to consider other options.

If you scored from 15-25, you probably should not attempt an online class at this time.
