MSU Challenge Exam Policies and Procedures
|
 |
The policies and procedures to be followed are listed below.
- To register, the student must first complete the attached registration form and submit it to the Testing Center along with a receipt showing payment for the exam.
- Payment of the exam fee may be made with a check or money order made payable to Mountain State University or by credit card. Payment is made in the Student Accounts Office located in the Benedum Center.
- Once the application has been processed, the Testing Center will mail relevant study guides or study materials to the address given on the application. A letter will be included that notifies the student of the last day in which they can take the exam. Study guides are not provided prior to payment and registration for the exam.
- Students have 2 months from their registration date to take the exam. If a student does not take the exam during the two-month period, he/she will have to register and pay the fee again.
- Students will take their exam in the Testing Center (Beckley campus) or with an approved proctor. Students planning to take their exam in the Testing Center must schedule their appointment at least one business day in advance by calling
(304) 929-1333.
- Students are not allowed to bring any items with them to their testing session. A nonprogrammable calculator is allowed for exams that contain math computations.
- MSU Challenge Exams carry an actual letter grade (A, B, C, D, F). The grade received on the exam will be placed on the official MSU transcript.
- Students will receive a letter stating the grade earned on the exam within 2 weeks of receipt of the completed exam.
- Any student that earns a grade of D or F on the first attempt will be permitted a second attempt. The student must wait 30 days to repeat the exam and will have a 2-week timeframe in which to retake the exam. The grade of the second attempt will be the final grade entered on the student’s transcript.
- There are two versions of each MSU Challenge Exam, thus the student will not have the opportunity to take the same exam twice. However, to maintain test integrity students are not allowed to review or receive copies of exams that have been taken for any reason.
- Students must wait a minimum of 180 days before being allowed to re-register to take the challenge exam again.
