Standardized Examination Programs

College-level credit is available for successful completion of various national standardized examinations. These exams cover content areas that are common curriculum requirements. Available examination programs include the College Level Examination Program (CLEP), Defense Activity for Nontraditional Education Support (DANTES) Standardized Subject Tests (DSST), and the University Challenge Examination.

CLEP examinations are computer-based exams that are offered in various subject areas. Exams are offered on a daily basis in the Testing Center and students are required to register in advance. You can register for CLEP exams by contacting the Testing Center and paying the $15 scheduling fee at Student Accounts prior to the test date. The CLEP exam fee is $70 (subject to change) and is paid on the test date. Scores that meet or exceed the minimum acceptable score are shown as a grade of “P” to indicate passing on the transcript. DANTES examinations are paper and pencil exams that are offered in various subject areas. Exams are offered once a month in the Testing Center and students are required to register in advance. You can register for DANTES examinations by contacting the Testing Center and paying the $10 scheduling fee at Student Accounts prior to the test date. The DANTES exam fee is $80 (subject to change) and is paid on the test date. Scores that meet or exceed the minimum acceptable score are shown as a grade of “P” to indicate passing on the transcript. Challenge Examinations are paper and pencil exams that are offered in various subject areas. Challenge Exams are offered daily in the Testing Center and students are required to register in advance. You can register for Challenge Exams by contacting the Testing Center and paying the $150 exam fee at Student Accounts prior to the test date. Challenge Exams carry an actual letter grade that will be placed on the MSU transcript. Information about Challenge exams is available in the Testing Center (304.929.1333).

Miller Analogies Test (MAT) click here
The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is offered at MSU in both computer based and paper-and-pencil versions. Computerized MAT testing may be scheduled Monday through Friday at 9:00AM, 10:00AM, 11:00AM, 12:00PM, 1:00PM, or 2:00 PM. The paper-and-pencil version of the MAT is administered each month according to the dates provided in the attached schedule.
