Placement Tests
ACT National
The ACT National is given one Saturday in the months of February, April, June, October and December each year. The National ACT scores are used for math and English placement.
Students must register through ACT for this exam. Information and registration packets are available in the Testing Center, or you can contact ACT directly (www.act.org, 319.337.1270).
ACT Residual
The ACT Residual is a paper and pencil exam used for both math and English placement. The exam is given once each month in the Testing Center and students are required to take the entire exam even if only one course placement is needed. You can register for the ACT Residual exam by contacting the Testing Center and paying the $40 exam fee at Student Accounts prior to the test date. Scores are not transferable to other institutions. ACT COMPASS/e-write
The ACT COMPASS/e-write is a computerized exam used for math and/or English placement. The exam is given each day in the Testing Center and provides the student with the flexibility
of taking only one placement exam or both exams. Each placement exam fee is $15. You can register for the ACT COMPASS/e-write exam by contacting the Testing Center and paying the exam fee in Student Accounts prior to the test date. ACT COMPASS/e-write scores are transferable to other institutions. Information about the ACT COMPASS/e-write is available in the

Math Placement
The Math Placement exam is a paper and pencil exam that consists of a series of five 30question multiple-choice tests. Students progress through as many of the tests as possible in 90 minutes.
You may take the Math Placement exam two times per calendar year. Calculators are not allowed on the exam and copies of the tests or answers sheets are not provided. You can register for the Math Placement exam by contacting the Testing Center and paying the $20 exam fee at Student Accounts prior to the test date. Scores are not transferable to other institutions. Information about the Math Placement exam is available in the Testing Center (304.929.1333).
SAT
Mountain State University is not currently an SAT test site. SAT information and registration packets are available from Educational Testing Service (www.collegeboard.org, 609.771.7600).
