Meet the Cougar Coaches
MSU Cheer Coaches:
Mary Beth Garcia,
Claytina Shepherd
Claytina Shepherd returns for her fourth season as head cheer coach for Mountain State University. She brings to MSU over 25 years of coaching experience. Shepherd has lead cheer teams to recognition in county, regional, and national competitions. Her high school team participated in the Gator Bowl halftime show in Jacksonville, Florida, and her last two years as a high school coach her team advanced to the WV State Competition. She resides in Beckley with her husband, Terry, and is proud to have her son Robert on the MSU Cheer Team.
Mary Beth Garcia is the newest member of the Mountain State University coaching team. Mary Beth brings a great deal of experience to the Cougar Cheer Team. She was a cheerleader for Woodrow Wilson and West Virginia University. Mary Beth is a Pre-K Teacher with the Raleigh County Board of Education. She is married to Mark Garcia, and has a new baby girl, Alana Brooke. The Garcia’s are proud members of the Church of God Family Worship Center.
