AZUSA, Calif. — Paul Wright hit a pair of three-pointers inside the final three minutes to help NAIA Division I No. 4 Mountain State University defeat Point Loma Nazarene 85-77 late Saturday night on the campus of Azusa Pacific.
The Cougars (9-3) trailed much of the second half before Wright gave them the lead for good late.
Wright finished with a game-high 27 points for MSU, which snapped a two-game losing streak. He was 4-of-4 from three-point range and 7-of-7 at the free throw line.
Ralph Legg added 14 points and five assists for the Cougars, while Tyrice Watkins had 12 points and seven rebounds.
MSU, which led 38-36 at halftime, shot 26-of-30 (86.7 percent) from the free throw line, including 19-of-21 (90.5 percent) in the second half.
Xavier Lopez led four Sea Lions in double figures with 19 points. He also grabbed six rebounds and had six assists. Matt Benson scored 17 points, Josh Sanderson 14 and Tim Kruge 13.
The Cougars return to action Saturday, Dec. 16, at new NAIA entrant WVU Tech. Tip-off at the Baisi Center in Montgomery will be 7:30 p.m. |
