Transient Credits & Consortium Agreement

A consortium agreement is a written agreement between two or more eligible institutions enabling students to take courses at different institutions simultaneously for the purpose of completing a degree. The agreement allows student to take courses at a "host institution" and have those courses counted toward the degree or certificate at the "home institution." Students must be degree seeking at the home institution. Each class taken at the "host institution" must be considered a requirement of the degree that the student is pursuing. The student is responsible for having the "host institution" complete the consortium agreement and submitting the agreement to the "home school's" Financial Aid Office for processing. A consortium agreement is administered each semester the student request to attend another institution.

The student must first complete the Transient Student Permit Form. Once completed, the student must fax or bring permit to the Academic Advising Office for approval. An Academic Advisor along with the Associate Registrar will approve the permit. The permit is then forwarded to the Financial Aid Office to initiate the consortium agreement between the Host School and Home School.

The consortium agreement is completed and faxed to the Host School requesting verification of enrollment. Along with the consortium agreement, a copy of the transient student permit is included showing approved courses in which the student has been permitted to enroll. If the student withdraws or drops from any approved course, the Host School is asked to inform the Home School. MSU is considered the Home School and will be responsible for processing financial aid at the student's request.

Upon receipt of the consortium agreement from the Host School verifying enrollment, a copy is forwarded to the VFAO as well as our Financial Aid Specialist for processing financial aid based on hours of enrollment at the Host School and Home School.

The student is responsible for paying the Host School.
