Events & Activities

Extracurricular activities include concerts, dances, lectures, movies, hypnotists, sports, comedians, and other live performances. Students not only have the opportunity to participate in these extracurricular activities, but to plan them as well. These experiences provide sound leadership development and make for lasting friendships and memories. Check out the event calendar.

By joining one of MSU’s student clubs and organizations you can make the campus feel like a smaller place. You have the opportunity to make new friends outside the classroom. You can develop leadership, management and interpersonal skills by taking on responsibilities within your student organization. Most of all, you can contribute something worthwhile to yourself and the MSU community by being an active part of it!

Cougar Den Student Union

The Cougar Den Student Union, in the lower level of the Robert C. Byrd Learning Resource Center, provides a spot for eating, studying, relaxing, and meeting friends and new people, as well as for social, cultural, educational, and school activities. The Cougar Den is home to the University's cafeteria and dining room and the Cougar Express grill. The student union also features ping-pong, pool tables, and other game equipment.

YMCA

All MSU students hold a membership in the Beckley-Raleigh County YMCA, located on Main Street, within walking distance of campus. The YMCA offers aerobic classes, swimming, Nautilus and free weight rooms, and much more. As an MSU student, you can take your student ID to the front desk, check in, and start sweating!

Intercollegiate Athletics

The University fields teams in cheerleading, men's basketball and soccer, as well as women's volleyball, softball and soccer. Cougar teams usually visit NAIA playoff competition. Most home games are played at the Raleigh County Armory, Van Meter Gymnasium, or the YMCA soccer fields. MSU students are admitted free with a valid student ID.
