Housing Options
Two centrally located residence halls are located on the Beckley campus. All full-time freshmen or sophomore students under the age of 21 are required to live on campus, unless they reside with a parent or guardian and commute daily to classes, are married or have children. Many other students who do not fall within the housing requirement—including upperclass and graduate students—still enjoy the convenience and connectedness of living on campus.
Located on the southwest end of campus, near Wiseman Hall, our new residence facility, University Hall, holds around 200 students. Students have private rooms arranged in four-room clusters that share a living area and personal facilities. The new hall also features wi-fi, group study areas, and balconies overlooking spacious and welcoming common areas.
Hogan Hall, built in 1997 and recently refurbished, provides double rooms arranged in two-room suites, with wi-fi and common areas for study and relaxation.
Both Hogan Hall and University Hall are located on the central campus, including the renovated Cougar Den dining hall with its all-you-can-eat buffet-style meals. They are also within walking distance of downtown Beckley and the YMCA, where all University students have a complimentary membership. Rooms have Wi-Fi at no additional charge, as well as telephone and cable outlets for students who wish to purchase those services, and can accommodate microwave ovens and small refrigerators.
MSU housing accommodates both male and female students in separate suites. Residence halls are accessible to those with handicaps and have air conditioning and laundry facilities.

Applying to Live on Campus
Students who are subject to the housing requirement and others who wish to live on campus must submit a housing application to the University’s Residence Life Office along with a $100 nonrefundable housing application fee. See "Residence Hall Terms and Regulations" for more information. Students who wish to live off campus must submit a request for an exemption to this policy. All residence hall assignments are made on a semester-to-semester basis. If you are requesting a double room you may request a specific roommate on your application for housing. If you do not designate a roommate, the Residence Life Office will make selections based on the criteria you designate.
