Adult Students

Mountain State University recognizes the added challenges unique to busy, working adults who are returning to college to complete a degree. That's why we offer a wide variety of learning formats, multiple instructional sites, and online programs that fit into a busy lifestyle.

We also value the motivation, work and prior learning experiences adult students bring to the classroom. MSU provides opportunities for adults to receive college credit for a wide variety of learning experience including prior college credit, professional certifications, military service, training programs, credit by examination such as CLEP and DANTES testing, as well as life/work experience.

Mountain State University offers online courses and degrees via the Blackboard learning management system, which features tools that allow students to access course information, communicate with their instructors and other students, take exams, and submit assignments.

Seniors at Mountain State (SAMS)

Age has its advantage at MSU. Adult students 60 years or older can attend most classroom-based undergraduate courses on a space-available basis without paying tuition or fees. You pay only for your textbooks and materials. In some instances (for example, culinary arts courses), you pay the additional fees required for those specific courses. You earn credit and work toward a degree if you wish. Additionally, SAMS students have the same access to the library and YMCA facilities as other students.

Participation in SAMS requires meeting with an enrollment representative before enrolling in each semester’s classes. SAMS enrollment is not available in some areas, including graduate programs, health science programs, selective enrollment programs, team learning (cohort) programs, online courses, graduate courses, and independent study.
