Jump Start Programs

Mountain State University provides high school students with a variety of opporutnities to "jump start" their academic career. Get started fast and begin earning credit toward your degree while you are still in high school!

High School Scholarhip Program (HSSP)

Open to juniors and seniors in high school, this program allows you to earn up to 12 college credits with no tuition costs. Students may enroll in classes at the Beckley campus at any time during their junior or senior year. Many students choose to enroll in classes over the summer session before their senior year or prior to beginning classes at MSU in the fall. This is a wonderful opportunity to get started on your college education.

EDGE Program

The West Virginia EDGE (Earn a Degree, Graduate Early) program was created to assist West Virginia high school students earn college credit while in high school. Students completing EDGE courses are eligible to transfer up to 15 credit hours to MSU toward their degree.

ProStart (Culinary Arts)

As a ProStart student, you have an interest in exploring culinary arts. The National Institute for Culinary Arts at Mountain State University will help you make the most of your interests and talents. When you complete the ProStart program, you can receive up to 15 hours of academic credits--the equivalent of a semester of full-time study--toward your culinary arts degree program at MSU.

Advanced Placement Testing

MSU accepts exams completed through the College Board's Advanced Placement Program in a variety of subjects. Students must request an official score report be sent to the University. Credit is awarded for examinations completed with a score of 3 or higher. MSU's code is 5054.
