USDA, ARS — Medicinal
Botanicals Program
About Us
The Medicinal Botanicals Program was created as result of a Specific Cooperative Agreement between Mountain State University and the USDA/ARS-Appalachian Farming Systems Research Center (AFSRC) in Beaver, WV. The establishment of this agreement came through the efforts of Senator Robert C. Byrd and a Congressional Appropriation.
Mission

Research
The Program conducts research on cultivation, processing, and utilization of medicinal plants for development of technologies that will improve the rural economy in West Virginia.
Outreach
The Program organizes symposia, seminars, and workshops for transfer of knowledge and technology to the community, and publishes the newsletter, The Herbal Dispatch, which serves as a vehicle to inform readers about events, activities and the latest research discoveries.
