Mountain State University — News and EventsArchives Spring 2004 Seminars Introductory Horticulture two-part series:
Presenter: Wade Snyder, Greenhouse Manager and Horticulture Technician, USDA- Agricultural Research Service, Beaver, WV. This two part workshop provides the opportunity for participants to gain basic knowledge regarding growing medicinal plants in a greenhouse or outdoor setting. Content will include a discussion of basic plant requirements (water, light, pH, potting medium, fertilizer etc.), pesticide management including safety precautions and organic options, general maintenance and resources for materials and information. Each 2 hour workshop will consist of 1 hour of presentation in the classroom and 1 hour of demonstration/hands-on activities in the Project greenhouse. During the first workshop, participants will have the opportunity to start off a few selected medicinal plants from seed. These projects will be maintained by the Medicinal Botanical Program until the second workshop, at which time, participants can take home their seedlings and materials.
