Responsibility:

CIRT Coordinator
Director of Physical Plant
Asst. Vice President for Public Relations and Marketing Services
Director of Human Resources
Senior Academic Officer for Business and Arts and Sciences

Role:

To determine and administrate the Inclement Weather Policy and make decisions regarding the alterations of class scheduling during times of dangerous weather conditions.

Function:

It is the goal of the team to communicate and release scheduling information in the advent of inclement weather. In the case of overnight developments, scheduling information will be released to the media and posted on the telephone system by 6:00am. The policy will be initiated by the CIRT Coordinator, in consultation with the Director of Physical Plant, Assistant Vice President for Public Relations and Marketing Services, the Director of Human Resources, and the Senior Academic Officer for Business and Arts and Sciences. Items for consideration will include a combination of (1) actual and anticipated road conditions, (2) ability to prepare and/or treat the campus, (3) forecast of pending weather events. Upon consultation, CIRT Coordinator will contact the Chief of Staff and the Assistant Vice President of Public Relations and Marketing Services for information release.

Degree:

Institutional response to inclement weather will take the form of four protocols. They are:

  1. Normal class schedule.
  2. Inclement Weather Schedule (faculty and staff report at regular time)
  3. Cancellation of classes (faculty and staff report at regular time)
  4. Closing of the institution (usually only in the event of a state of emergency)*

* Physical Plant will need a limited staff to report to begin to clear the campus and check buildings. Dining Services will need a limited staff to prepare meals for residential students. Staffing decisions will be made by the supervisors of each area. Employees should use their own judgment in attempting to reach campus. If the campus is open and an employee chooses not to attempt to travel to campus, the employee may be required to take vacation, personal, or unpaid leave.

Under any adverse weather conditions, students, staff, and faculty should use their own judgment before attempting to travel to campus.
